Severe storms could bring damaging winds to parts of Tennessee on Monday

TENNESSEE — Parts of Tennessee are at risk for severe thunderstorms Monday afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed portions of the southern Appalachians, including eastern Tennessee, under a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather.

Forecasters say scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop and strengthen Monday afternoon and continue into the evening. The primary threat is expected to be damaging straight-line winds capable of downing trees and power lines.

An isolated tornado also cannot be ruled out, particularly across the eastern part of the state near the southern Appalachian region, where atmospheric conditions may become favorable for rotating storms embedded within a line of thunderstorms…
