Route 54 on Tennessee/Kentucky border to expand, officials break ground

What is being described as a project decades in the making, State Route 54 on the Kentucky-Tennessee border officially broke ground this week on the first of a planned, two-part multi-million dollar expansion.

The first phase of the project is three miles long and comes at a price of $38 million. It will connect from Howard Road in Tennessee’s Henry County, just north of Puryear, to the Kentucky state line.

It is expected to be complete in May 2029…
