NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Authorities identified the possible source of a destructive house fire that claimed the life of a family pet and threatened neighboring residences on Tuesday.
The Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department announced that investigators believe improperly discarded smoking materials may have sparked the fire in the 9000 block of War Eagles Way.

Photos show flames shooting out of the roof and attic, and at least two neighbors’ homes were damaged before firefighters arrived.
While the home had a sprinkler system, officials determined the blaze began on or near the outside deck, which was outside the system’s coverage.
“Residential fire sprinklers remain extremely effective and are an important life-safety feature,” the agency wrote. “We have seen firsthand in this same neighborhood how quickly they can control an interior fire and protect a family.”…
