RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WZTV) — The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office is warning families of recently arrested people about a scheme involving callers who pose as jail staff and request money to secure an inmate’s release.
The sheriff’s office said the people running this scheme may provide real inmate information, including names and charges, to appear legitimate. The callers then ask family members to send money through Apple Pay, according to the agency.
