MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) – A 37-year-old Murfreesboro man died overnight from self-inflicted gunshot wounds after a nearly five-hour standoff with law enforcement.
The Murfreesboro Police Department (MPD) responded to a home on Haynes Drive around 3:28 a.m. Sunday after receiving an emergency call from a friend. The caller informed dispatchers that the man was armed with a handgun and threatening self-harm.
Upon arrival, officers attempted to make contact and ordered the man to exit the home peacefully. When he refused to comply, MPD activated its Special Operations Unit (SOU), crisis negotiators, and drone team.
