The City of Murfreesboro is set to open the new Gateway Blvd. Extension to Robert Rose Drive on Tuesday, Feb. 20. The project, which cost $6.84 million, is already equipped with traffic controls. A new traffic signal at the intersection of Robert Rose Dr. and Gateway Blvd. was activated on Feb. 12, 2024.

The extension aims to offer an alternative route to Robert Rose Drive. It will also help manage emergency traffic around the medical offices and Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital. The new road will pass behind the Oaks Shopping Center and between the West Fork Stones River. Chris Griffith, Public Infrastructure Executive Director, said the extension should improve access to Robert Rose and the Medical Center Parkway.

The design phase of the Gateway Blvd. Extension project started in 2022, with construction beginning in 2023. The new road has two lanes and includes pedestrian sidewalks. The City funded the project as part of the Murfreesboro 2040 Major Transportation Plan.

The project cost $6.84 million in total. This includes $185,000 for preliminary engineering, $4.3 million for land acquisition, $50,000 for construction engineering inspection, and $2.3 million for construction.
