Bicyclist flown to hospital after being struck by vehicle in Murfreesboro

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) — A crash involving a vehicle and bicyclist partially shut down a road in Murfreesboro early Tuesday morning, officials said.

According to the Murfreesboro Police Department (MPD), the crash shut down Old Salem Road from Commercial Court to Captain Joe Fulghum Drive.

Lieutenant Greg Walker with MPD’s Traffic Division told News 2 that a preliminary investigation indicates the bicyclist was traveling westbound on Old Salem when he was struck by a vehicle that was traveling eastbound and attempting to make a left turn onto another street.

Authorities said the bicyclist — identified as a young man — was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The extent of his injuries remain unknown.

Lt. Walker said the bicyclist was wearing a helmet and had reflective gear and lighting on the bicycle.
