The City of Murfreesboro is set to open the new Gateway Blvd. Extension to Robert Rose Drive on February 20, 2024. This $6.84 million project aims to provide an alternate route to Robert Rose Drive and improve emergency traffic flow around medical offices and Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital. It is also expected to lessen traffic on Thompson Lane.
The new road, located behind the Oaks Shopping Center and between the West Fork Stones River, began design in 2022 and construction in 2023. It includes a two-lane roadway with pedestrian sidewalks and a view of Stones River.
The city fully funded the project as part of the Murfreesboro 2040 Major Transportation Plan. The project’s total cost of $6.84 million includes $185,000 for preliminary engineering, $4.3 million for right of way acquisition, $50,000 for construction engineering inspection, and $2.3 million for construction.
A new traffic signal at Robert Rose Dr. and Gateway Blvd. was activated on February 12, 2024. It will start regular operation from February 20, after a week of flashing.
