The Criminal Investigation Division Fraud Unit of the Murfreesboro Police Department is investigating two men suspected of being part of an organized crime ring. They are allegedly selling low-quality items as high-quality ones. The operation is believed to be based in Texas and has spread to several Southern states, including Tennessee.
The suspects are accused of selling low-quality projectors and projector screens as high-end products. They claim to represent a non-existent company, Sound Vision, and have created fake packaging and websites to make the items seem legitimate. They sell these items at a significant discount in business parking lots.
A Murfreesboro man reported the scam after he was approached by the suspects in a Lowe’s parking lot on January 30, 2023. The suspects claimed they were selling the projectors and screens at a reduced price due to over-ordering. The man bought a projector and screen for $1,500, thinking it was a $12,000 brand.
The man later became suspicious and found a discussion about a ‘White Van Scam’ involving the same suspects on Reddit. He reported the incident to the Murfreesboro police and provided the purchased items as evidence. The suspects are thought to be driving a silver 2023 Ford Expedition Limited Edition with a Texas license plate TFN1340.
