Brian Lowe, Fire Marshal at the Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department in Tennessee, has earned the ‘Chief Fire Officer’ (CFO) designation after completing an international credentialing process. He is among 1,873 fire officials globally to hold this title. The Commission on Professional Credentialing (CPC) re-conferred Lowe’s CFO designation on February 15, 2024. Lowe thanked the City of Murfreesboro and his department for their support.

The CFO Designation program is a voluntary initiative that recognizes individuals who excel in seven areas, including experience, education, professional development, professional contributions, association membership, community involvement, and technical competence. Candidates must also present a future professional development plan. The program uses a peer review model for evaluation.

The CPC, a part of the Center for Public Safety Excellence®, Inc., (CPSE®), oversees the Designation Program. It consists of individuals from academia, government, and the fire and emergency medical services profession. The CFO designation is valid for three years, and recipients must show continued growth in the aforementioned areas to maintain it.
