Value of ‘style’: Adding character to a Middle Tennessee home without breaking the bank

When it comes to home renovation and design, style usually comes at a price. But incorporating style into a Middle Tennessee home doesn’t always have to cost top dollar.

Jennifer Davenport, owner and lead designer of the Murfreesboro-based JD’s All About Home, has some advice for homeowners looking for ways to add style without compromising on value.

“Design, whether your budget is minimal or huge, is all about knowing where to put the money and where to save it,” she said, noting that Do-It-Yourself projects are some of the easiest ones to tackle and can add style without compromising on value.

“Any type of wood treatment on the wall… those are wonderful, easy projects to do, whether it’s (adding) wainscoting or just a little bit of trim around the windows,” she said. “Those are probably some of the best DIY projects you can do that not only look beautiful and make your home look unique, but they also add to that resale value.”

Put your money where your kitchen is

Davenport has more than 20 years of experience in interior design. She opened her first store with her husband, Scott, in Murfreesboro in 2016. Today, the couple owns a 6,000-square-foot showroom fashioned from an old restaurant at 1824 Old Fort Parkway.
