City of Franklin seeks public input to improve road safety

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WKRN) — Franklin city officials are working on a safety action plan to identify projects and policies that would make walking, biking and driving around town safer.

The effort is funded by a federal Safe Streets and Roads for All grant . It’s an initiative several other cities in Middle Tennessee are also working on as the region’s population continues to grow .

Data from the City of Franklin showed that in 2023, there were 16 crashes within city limits. That’s up from 7 crashes the year prior. Last year’s data still shows a decline from 2019 and 2020, which each peaked at 19 crashes.

“People make mistakes and we’re trying to figure out where we can eliminate the high injury crashes and fatalities,” city traffic engineer, Adam Moser, said.

Moser said that Franklin officials are compiling data for their safety action plan.

“For near misses, we don’t know where those are,” Moser added. “Those aren’t reported in crash data, so we need their ‘Hey, I almost always get in a crash here,’ so we can get those identified.”
