‘Kids can be themselves’: Murfreesboro mothers build indoor sandbox for sensory play

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) — Two Murfreesboro mothers, inspired by their own children, are starting a business to serve as an outlet for kids and their parents.

Amber Morton and Sunny Curl are friends bonded by motherhood. With three kids each, the two stay-at-home moms told News 2 there is rarely a quiet moment.

“The days are long, but the years are short, especially with multiple kids,” said Amber Morton, co-owner of Dig It Indoor Sandbox.

The moms both have a child with specific needs. Morton has a child with autism and Curl has a kid with PTSD. However, they told News 2 they are learning to navigate motherhood together.

“His autism is just something we are working through, and it’s his superpower,” Morton said.

“It has been a journey to go with her through this,” explained Curl, another co-owner of Dig It Indoor Sandbox. “I also have PTSD, and so I’m just making sure that I’m giving her all the opportunities that she needs to heal and to grieve.”
