Nashville, Tenn. – Tennessee’s unemployment rate in October 2024 was 3.3%, remaining significantly below the national rate of 4.1%, according to data from the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD). Although the rate marked a slight increase of 0.1 percentage points from September, it reflects a robust state economy.
The U.S. unemployment rate remained steady in October, while Tennessee’s figure dropped 0.2 percentage points compared to October 2023, showcasing the state’s steady labor market improvements. Earlier this year, Tennessee achieved a historic low unemployment rate of 3% for three consecutive months.
Job Growth Across Key Sectors
In October, Tennessee employers added 2,600 nonfarm jobs, with the most significant gains in the education and health services sector. The government and manufacturing sectors also saw notable increases. Over the past 12 months, the state’s nonfarm employment has expanded by 45,200 jobs, led by the education and health services, trade and transportation, and mining and construction sectors.
