Asher Sullivan’s family honor son who died with donating stuffed animals: ‘It meant a lot’

The family of Asher Sullivan , a 10-year-old boy who died in May, are donating stuffed animals he collected to other children facing trauma.

Asher’s parents, Rutherford County Schools Director James “Jimmy” Sullivan and Kaycee Sullivan, the boy’s brother, Declan, wanted to remember Asher by making the donations, according to a press release from Rutherford County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Lisa Marchesoni.

“He always wanted a stuffed animal from every gift store,” Asher’s mother said in the press release.

Asher suffered injuries May 8 after getting trapped in a storm drain. He was hospitalized until his death May 18. During that time, his friends visiting him were comforted by stuffed animals in the Ronald McDonald room at Monroe Carell Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, the press release said.

“As a family, we wanted to do something in his honor to give back to the hospital and that room, and I was immediately called to find a way to collect stuffed animals to donate,” Jimmy Sullivan said in a Facebook post entitled, “Asher’s Animals.”
