The Tennessee Vols looked like they were in trouble on Monday night when they were trailing Middle Tennessee by six points at halftime.
But Tennessee outscored MTSU by 24 points in the second half while on their way to an 82-64 win.
The Vols moved to 13-0 with the win.
Tennessee’s comeback win, however, wasn’t the biggest Vols hoops story of the day.
Earlier on Monday, news broke that guard Cameron Carr, who has been sidelined after suffering a thumb injury in November, decided to leave the program.
Carr signed with Tennessee as a four-star recruit during the 2023 recruiting cycle.
Tennessee head coach Rick Barnes was asked about Carr’s departure following the Vols’ win on Monday night.
Barnes told reporters that he has no idea why Carr left the program while noting that the coaching staff didn’t have any discussions with the sophomore guard before he left.
“He just walked out,” said Barnes.
“We were obviously counting on him being part of the team. Surprised his teammates. They were very disappointed. So from here on, there is nothing to really talk about. He made his decision. No reason. It’s baffling to be quite honest with you.”
“To be honest with you I am not surprised,” continued Barnes when further asked about Carr’s decision. “It didn’t surprise me. I actually made that comment to the coaches. That’s all I can tell you…We are around these guys all the time. We know when guys are locked in and when they’re not. We know guys. We know these guys like the back of our hand. They talk. We talk. So if you ask me, I was not the least bit surprised.”
