KINGSPORT, Tenn. (WJHL) — Spots are nearly full to participate in “First Day Hikes” at Tennessee State Parks across the Tri-Cities.
According to a news release from Tennessee State Parks, the free hiking events aim to help families start their year off on a healthy, positive note. All hikes take place on Jan. 1 at various times of the day, and registration is required on TNStateParks.com.

According to the state parks agency, hiking events at Roan Mountain and Warriors Path state parks are already full. A First Day Hike at Sycamore Shoals State Park, however, remains open for registration.
The First Day Hike at Sycamore Shoals takes place on Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. Participants who register are asked to meet at the picnic area beside the visitor’s center. A park ranger will guide the group hike.
Hikers are encouraged to wear closed-toed walking shoes and warm clothing. It’s also a good idea to bring water and snacks.
