Peoria, Ill. (WMBD) — The roller coaster that was the end of 2024 brought warm and rainy conditions to Central Illinois for the past two weeks of the month, but it looks like we’ll be on a completely different track for the start of January. Much colder air will filter into the region and we’ll have several opportunities for accumulating snow over the next few weeks.
Upcoming snow chances
As colder air filters into the area we’ll see a couple of opportunities for accumulating snow this week and there will likely be more to come over the next few weeks. Scattered snow flurries are likely to impact Central Illinois Tuesday night and Wednesday but our next chance for accumulating snow will come on Thursday.
A quick moving clipper-like system will bring a quick shot of snow to the area from 12 pm to 10 pm Thursday. Snow accumulations ranging from 0.5″ to 2.0″ are expected but it will be enough to impact the Thursday evening commute.
After Thursday we’ll be in for some quiet weather on Friday and Saturday but an incoming storm system is expected to bring another opportunity for accumulating snow Sunday and Monday. How much snow we receive will depend on the storm track which remains uncertain at this point.
