UPDATE Nashville, TN – At approximately 1:15 Thursday (3/27/2027) morning, a devastating collision on I-24 East near the Rutherford-Davidson County line claimed the lives of a 45-year-old Illinois man and his 72-year-old father, both occupants of a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado. Arrest warrants charging 25-year old Daniel Caravaca-Bonilla with two counts of vehicular homicide by intoxication have been issued following the tragic incident.
The preliminary investigation revealed that traffic on I-24 was slowing for an approaching construction zone, prompting vehicles to merge into the far-left lane. Caravaca-Bonilla, driving a 2021 Ram 2500 pickup truck, failed to brake and struck the Silverado at a high rate of speed. The impact caused the Silverado to collide with an Infiniti QX50, which then struck a Ford Fusion and a Chevrolet Malibu. No serious injuries were reported among occupants of those vehicles.
Authorities discovered open alcohol containers in Caravaca-Bonilla’s vehicle during the investigation. Exhibiting signs of impairment, he refused testing, prompting officials to obtain a search warrant for a blood draw. Results are pending…
