Death row inmate Gerald Powers, sentenced in Memphis 26 years ago, dies

Gerald Powers, a Tennessee man who a judge sentenced to death 26 years ago, died Saturday on death row. He was 70.

Powers’ official cause of death is pending the medical examiner’s report, a spokesperson for the Tennessee Department of Correction said. He had advanced, metastatic cancer at the time of his death, according to his attorney.
