KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A Tennessee bill offering longer recess time for elementary schoolers will be considered in the House Monday afternoon.
SB 1058 proposes increasing the required amount of recess time for elementary school students from 130 minutes per week to at least 40 minutes per day. The bill passed the Senate with a 28-1 vote in March.
The House companion bill, HB 0085, was introduced by Representative Scott Cepicky (R-Culleoka) and passed the House Education Committee on April 1 with a 17-1 vote. After being discussed in the committee, it was recommended for passage and placed on the regular calendar for consideration.
