Sober and pulled over: TBI to report DUI charges with negative blood tests under new bill

A new bill will require police to report each time they charge someone with driving under the influence and then toxicology results show that person was sober.

The legislation passed the Tennessee Senate and House of Representatives unanimously on April 15.

Under the bill, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation must detail to the speakers of the House and Senate all instances in the past year when someone was charged with DUI but “no alcohol or other intoxicants are detected in the person’s blood or breath.” This would begin in 2026 and end after 2029…
