WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:
The few storms west of the Mississippi River tonight have wrapped up and we will be dry for the remainder of the night. A slight risk (2/5) for severe storms has been issued for most of West Tennessee for Friday. The storms are going to come in two rounds. One in the early afternoon hours and another one late in the evening as the front passes by. You need to stay weather aware from around 11am until 10pm tomorrow. If is tough to tell exactly where and when the worst storms are going to be, but we are likely to encounter some severe weather during that time frame. Strong straight line winds will be the main threat, but a spin up tornado or two as well of some isolated large hail will be possible. Catch the latest on the timing coming up here.
THIS WEEK:
There were more showers and storms Wednesday night that did produce some heavy rain and weak storms. Our best chances for stronger storms or severe weather this week will be on Friday. A few of these storms could be strong or severe in the afternoon and evening hours and linger overnight. Chances for rain on Friday at 80%. There could be a few storms or showers Thursday evening between 7-10pm as well. Thursday highs reached the low 80s as we saw a partly cloudy day keeping the temperatures down a bit compared to the beginning of the week. The winds still came out of the southwest on Thursday and the next front will look to pass by sometime in the day on Friday. We are currently under a slight risk (2/5) for storms Friday afternoon/evening and we are not expecting an upgrade to a level 3 but it cannot be ruled out as of now. We are under a level 1 (marginal risk) for Thursday night.
We are expecting more showers and storms on Friday as the cold front will finally pass by overnight into Saturday morning. The winds on Friday will change from the southwest to the west and then to the northwest during the night as the front passes by. Highs on Friday will hit the upper 70s and Friday night lows will drop down to around 60°. Chances for rain on Friday are 80% with most coming in the evening and night time hours. Although a tornado or two, or some large hail cannot be ruled out, gusty winds appear to the be the main threats with lightning and heavy rain.
