RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Motorists were backed up for miles in Rutherford County due to “police activity” that closed multiple eastbound lanes on Interstate 24 Sunday. Several hours later, authorities announced a person had been found shot in a vehicle on I-24.
According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the “police activity” was reported just after 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 18 at mile marker 64.8 of I-24 East, where the two left lanes and the left shoulder were blocked until after 6:30 p.m.

A TDOT spokesperson posted on social platform X shortly before 4:30 p.m. that local emergency services were on site and traffic was detouring at Waldron Road.
At one point, traffic cameras showed motorists backed up all the way to mile marker 60.7 on I-24 East. However, by 6:45 p.m., TDOT’s online map indicated traffic was flowing again since all eastbound travel lanes were back open at mile marker 64.8…
