MEMPHIS, Tenn — State Representative and Chairman of the Tennessee Black Caucus of State Legislators Jesse Chism is asking Tennessee’s Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti to explain what will happen to employees working in Tennessee’s Human Rights Commission (HRC).
A bill was passed in early 2025 that would combine the HRC into the office of the State’s Attorney General, with the 30 employees at the commission to be transferred to the Attorney General’s office, according to Chism.
Later, employees were told that they would be laid off via email, but it was later revised, allowing the employees a week to submit resumes to the Attorney General’s office for consideration, according to a report from the Nashville Banner published on May 16, 2025…
