Murfreesboro residents push for better pedestrian infrastructure after man was hit and killed by train

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WSMV) – Some Murfreesboro residents say they weren’t surprised to see the news that a 19-year-old boy was hit and killed by a train at the intersection of Main Street and Overall Street Friday.

“It’s kind of been a boiling pot situation with all the pedestrians that have been through that area,” Murfreesboro resident Quin Sweeney told WSMV. “It’s not at all unexpected.”

Police say the 19-year-old was trying to cross the intersection and climbed through an empty boxcar of a train that was stopped on the tracks. They say he threw his bike down on the second set of tracks and when he went to pick it up, another train struck and killed him. Sweeney says the pedestrian infrastructure at the intersection and in most of Murfreesboro is lacking, despite new growth in the city…
