NASHVILLE, Tenn. — NASHVILLE, TN – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) is actively recruiting for wildlife officer positions, with applications being accepted from June 2-23. These roles, often known as game wardens, are crucial for enforcing the state’s fishing, hunting, trapping, and boating regulations, with at least one officer assigned to each of Tennessee’s 95 counties. Counties with higher populations or high-use areas often have two or sometimes even three wildlife officers assigned.
In my experience, most hardcore hunters or fishermen will say, “Yea, I thought about becoming a game warden.” However, relatively few follow through with the stringent requirements to qualify and actually get the job.
In the Fall of 2023 TWRA hired 20 new wildlife officers. TWRA officials say the hiring target this time is ten new officers, however they add that it could be more or less, depending upon the quality of the applicant pool…
