NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency reports receiving hundreds of messages from people questioning the agency’s decision to release three orphaned black bear cubs into the wild after their mother was hit and killed by a car in Sullivan County on May 18.
“We have received hundreds of comments, primarily on social media. Many are concerned about whether the bears can survive and have questioned the decision,” said Emily Buck, TWRA Director of Public Relations.
When asked whether those comments are prompting TWRA to re-evaluate the decision, Buck said, “No, we stand by the decision. Our biologists are well-trained in bear management and believe that the bears were healthy enough to have a chance, however slim, of surviving on their own.”…
