MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) — As Independence Day approaches, Murfreesboro officials are reminding residents about local laws regulating the use and sale of fireworks within city limits.
Fireworks may only be discharged on July 3rd, 4th, and 5th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Use is also allowed on December 31 from 10:00 a.m. to midnight, and on January 1 from midnight to 1:00 a.m. and again from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Charles Powell, Training Coordinator with Murfreesboro Fire-Rescue, shares some fireworks safety tips:
Restrictions on Sales and Use
It is illegal to sell fireworks to anyone under 16 years old. Those close to that age must show a valid state-issued photo ID or be accompanied by an adult. Sales are also prohibited to anyone who is intoxicated or acting irresponsibly.
Banned Fireworks
Certain types of fireworks are strictly prohibited in Murfreesboro, including:
- Mortar fireworks with tubes greater than 1½ inches in diameter
- Reloadable fireworks
- Bottle rockets
Possession or use of these items within city limits is a violation of local ordinances.
Where Fireworks May Not Be Used
Fireworks cannot be discharged:
- On private property without the owner’s permission
- On public property, including streets and sidewalks
- Within 600 feet of a church, hospital, or public school
- At or from a motor vehicle
- At any group of people
Vendors must follow strict guidelines, including providing written materials listing the legal dates and times fireworks can be used, along with appropriate safety instructions…
