Death row inmate appears in court 18 years after Christian-Newsom murders

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Lemaricus Davidson, one of five people convicted in the 2007 murders of Chris Newsom and Channon Christian, appeared in court Wednesday.

Davidson was sentenced to death for the murders. His lawyers filed several motions asking the court to review his conviction and sentence. A law passed in 2023 gave the AG control over cases like this, but Davidson’s lawyers are arguing the law violates the 14th Amendment and the Tennessee State Constitution.
