New $5K scholarship helps TN students finish healthcare degrees debt-free

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Department of Health is partnering with tnAchieves to create an academic scholarship for students going into healthcare.

The Public Health Academic Bridge Scholars Program will be available every year to students who have received their associate’s and plan on attending a four-year university to study healthcare. Twenty Tennessee students have been selected for the $5,000 scholarship.

As 10News reported back in 2024, leaders warned that East Tennessee could see a 10% shortfall in the number of needed nurses by 2035. Graham Thomas, the chief community and government affairs officer at tnAcheives, said this is something their partnership focuses on, as 54% of their students are in healthcare or a STEM field…
