NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Some lawmakers in Tennessee are criticizing the state’s new Education Freedom Scholarship program for the data it doesn’t track.
Rep. Caleb Hemmer (D-Nashville) told News 2 that Tennessee isn’t collecting students’ previous enrollment data, making it impossible for the public to know how many publicly funded school vouchers will go to students already enrolled in private school.
“Tennessee’s voucher program is flying blind,” Hemmer said. “Without basic data, we can’t even know who it’s helping, who it’s leaving behind, and whether it’s worth the cost, and that’s not just bad policy, it’s a betrayal of public trust.”…
