GREENE COUNTY, Tenn. — Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee is making stops across the state as he signs new legislation aimed at protecting farmland from development.
Lee’s first stop touting the new law was at a family farm in Greene County that’s as old as Tennessee itself. It’s a sight that’s becoming rarer as population growth in our region and statewide results in farms rapidly being replaced by new homes.
“We are in the top five worst states in America for the loss of farmland,” Lee said. “We lose ten acres an hour of farmland to development in this state. It’s a staggering statistic.”…
