A significant stash of contraband, including drugs, tobacco, and dozens of electronics, was foiled in its entry to the Northeast Correctional Complex early this month. The thwarted attempt occurred on July 2 when vigilant correctional officers searched what appeared to be a run-of-the-mill shipment that turned out to be anything but mundane.
The search unveiled a plethora of illicit goods: hundreds of suboxone strips, drug-drenched paper, marijuana, and THC oils, over 50 pounds of tobacco were snagged from the package, as well were more than 70 cell phones and chargers. Amidst increasing concerns regarding prison security and inmate welfare, such discoveries are not to be taken lightly. “The introduction of contraband is a serious threat to prison systems across the country, and to the safety of both staff and inmates,” Commissioner Frank Strada pointed out, in a statement provided by the Tennessee Department of Correction.
Applauding the attentiveness of the facility’s staff, Warden Brian Eller attributes the successful interception to their “close observation and attention to detail.” Their efforts are pivotal in upholding the prison’s security and safeguarding its population. Eller emphasizes the significance of such vigilance, saying, “Because of the close observation and attention to detail by our staff, we were able to intercept the contraband and maintain security of the facility and the safety of the staff and inmates,” as reported by a recent press release…
