From July 14-20, Georgia will be launching its annual campaign to reduce speeding and aggressive driving. The state will be joined by Alabama, Florida, South Carolina and Tennessee.
“Operation Southern Slow Down” is an initiative that began in 2017 to reduce crashes and raise awareness of the dangers that speeding poses. During the weeklong operation expect to see more police officers on interstates and highways monitoring for speeding.
In the 2024 “Operation Southern Slow Down,” Georgia state troopers and police issued 12,544 citations and warnings. 8,900 of those were for speeding. Citations and warnings were also issued for distracted driving. Additionally, 446 people were arrested for driving under the influence…
