KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Summit Medical Group is not planning to renew its contract with BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee (BCBST) after it said they have been unable to reach an agreement for an updated contract.
Summit said they sent a formal notice of non-renewal to BCBST. As a result, Summit providers will be out-of-network for BCBST commercial and Medicare Advantage products on January 1, 2026. The insurance provider added that patients can continue to seek care at Summit through the end of the year, and they are hopeful an agreement can be reached before the contract expires.

“Issuing the notice of non-renewal was a necessary step to protect the future of independent medicine and ensure patients continue to have access to high-quality, personalized care,” Summit Medical Group CEO Ed Curtis said. “We remain committed to reaching a fair agreement that supports our providers and the communities we serve.”
