Extreme heat makes working outside more dangerous, experts say

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – More dangerously hot weather is on the way to East Tennessee.

While some can take refuge inside, other workers and first responders have to be out in the sun, and they are taking extra precautions.

“We’re encouraging them to drink lots of water before they come to work that day or so leading up to their shifts, and then while they’re at work, we want them to do as much as they can in the morning hours and then get any air conditioning and stay in the air conditioning,” Jeff Bagwell with Rural Metro Fire said. “We don’t want them out on the trucks; we don’t want them out doing anything except emergencies.”…
