Escaped inmate found, taken into custody: Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office

RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — The inmate who escaped during a work detail in Rutherford County has been found and taken into custody, according to the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.

Joseph Beard of Dickson, 43, was picking up trash in the 8800 block of John Bragg Highway around 3:31 p.m. when he walked away from the work crew, according to Captain Jason Smitty of the Correctional Work Center.

Officials with the RCSO said, “Beard was taken into custody just before dark” on Monday.

According to Rutherford County Sheriff’s Lt. Derek Oeser, there is no longer a threat to Readyville residents.

The Murfreesboro Police Department, as well as other law enforcement agencies, were called in to assist with the search. K-9 units and drones have been deployed in the effort, the RCSO said. The Tennessee Highway Patrol’s helicopter is on the way to assist.
