Private prison operator CoreCivic sued after Tenn. inmate killed a day before his release

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Private company CoreCivic, which runs 4 prisons in Tennessee, is accused of failing to protect an inmate who was allegedly killed by another inmate the day before he was scheduled to be released.

Maria Googe told FOX 17 News that this Thursday marks one year since her son, Matthew Vogel, died.

She is emotional to this day and wants CoreCivic to be held accountable.

39-year-old Vogel was finishing a 6-month sentence for a parole violation at South Central Correctional Facility in Clifton, Tennessee, when, according to a lawsuit against CoreCivic, he was beaten to death by his cellmate…
