Lee discusses deployment of National Guard to assist ICE during visit to East TN

NORRIS, Tenn. (WATE) — Tennessee Governor Bill Lee provided additional insight into the Tennessee National Guard’s recently-announced partnership with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement after touring Norris Dam State Park Wednesday afternoon.

The governor toured the state park with officials and park rangers las part of his year-long tour around the state in honor of the country’s 250th anniversary. While there are 60 state parks in Tennessee, Norris Dam State Park was the fourth state park established.

The visit came as news spread about Lee mobilizing the Tennessee National Guard to assist with President Donald Trump’s mass deportation plan. 6 News’ sister station, WKRN, revealed that the governor’s office reported the decision was made following a request for assistance from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

At Norris Dam State Park, Lee told reporters that the state National Guard had entered into a 287(g) program agreement to assist the Trump Administration “in whatever strategy they implement to make sure that we remove these criminals from our communities.”…
