Tennessee city rolls out new effort to reduce panhandling

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WZTV) — New signs are going up around downtown Murfreesboro encouraging residents to “say no to panhandling” and instead support local charities through the city’s new “Better Way to Give” campaign.

The signs, which began appearing around the Downtown Square on August 18, include a QR code directing people to a list of local organizations that provide food, shelter, counseling, and job opportunities to people experiencing homelessness or hardship.

Among the agencies featured are The Journey Home, Murfreesboro Cold Patrol, and The Salvation Army. City leaders say these groups can create long-term solutions for those in need…
