New 24/7 free-standing emergency department proposed for growing Wilson County

WILSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — As more people choose to live in Wilson County, HighPoint Health with Ascension Saint Thomas has proposed a new free-standing emergency department.

Dr. Geoff Lifferth, Chief Medical Officer at HighPoint Health with Ascension Saint Thomas said the new facility — which would be near the intersection of Highway 109 and Highway 70 — would take up about 11,000 square feet.

“This freestanding emergency department is going to be open 24/7 staffed by board-certified emergency physicians, and we’ll have all those things: lab, X-Ray, CT,” Lifferth said.

HighPoint Health said the building would be equipped with eight beds, a trauma room and everything you’d see in a normal emergency department. Administrators said the development is needed to serve the roughly 150,000 residents who live in the area…
