Domestic Violence: Knowledge is necessary for change

Time to talk about Domestic Violence. I know it isn’t a fun subject but knowledge is necessary for change. The dynamics of domestic violence are multifaceted and complex. Let’s talk about laws that are changing in regards to domestic violence.

As you probably know, there are lots of registries for various crimes. There are registries for sex offender, elder abuse, drug abuse, animal abuse and child abuse, to mention a few. There will be a new registry coming in January for domestic violence. “Savanna’s Law” establishes a public registry for habitual domestic violence offenders.

This registry will be maintained by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), it will include individuals convicted of a second or subsequent domestic violence offense. The law aims to enhance public safety by making offender information available online, while also honoring the memory of Deputy Puckett, who was tragically murdered in a domestic violence incident. Savanna Puckett was a Robertson County Sheriff’s Deputy who was murdered by her ex-boyfriend in 2022. Her mother, Kim Dodson, advocated for the law’s passage to honor her daughter’s memory and protect other potential victims.
