In an incident that is drawing state-level investigation, a Madison County deputy discharged their firearm at juvenile carjacking suspects, injuring one, during a chase that spanned two Tennessee counties. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) has taken the lead on the investigation after the events unfolded on Saturday afternoon, as reported by Action News 5.
The pursuit began when a deputy identified a vehicle reported stolen in a carjacking incident from earlier that day; the TBI notes that three juveniles were inside the stolen car, and it had been forcibly taken in the Beech Bluff Road area east of Jackson, WREG reports. Cascading into Gibson County, the pursuit reached a perilous peak near Highway 79 South and South Main Street in the Town of Gibson, where the deputy opened fire on the vehicle, and one juvenile was struck in the arm and required hospitalization for non-life-threatening injuries; simultaneously, the deputy also sustained a minor, non-life-threatening head injury and received medical attention.
