We are heading into a weekend where a significant change in air mass is going to occur and this is going to create severe thunderstorm and tornado risks for much of the state of Tennessee as well as Kentucky, West Virginia and Southeast Ohio per the Storm Prediction Center’s new forecast. Metropolitan areas that are in the risk zones include Nashville, TN…Lexington-Fayette, KY…Murfreesboro, TN…Bowling Green, KY…Charleston, WV. Though the primary risk is going to be from thunderstorms that produce strong gusty winds, there is the possibility for an isolated tornado or two to spin up. The risk for severe thunderstorms is due to a strong cold front that is heading southeastward from the Northern Plains and Great Lakes marks the leading edge of a very cool air mass from Central Canada.
