Murfreesboro police chief recommends studying consolidated 911 center

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) — When minutes matter, you want help on the way as soon as possible.

Over 80% of counties in Tennessee coordinate all 911 calls from one emergency call center. However, that’s not how things operate in Rutherford County.

“A good example would be at the Murfreesboro Police Department, we do emergency medical dispatching,” Murfreesboro Police Chief Michael Bowen said. “So when we receive that call, we have dispatchers that are trained to handle those calls. But at the same time, we also transfer that call to the Rutherford County Ambulance Service, who then dispatches an ambulance.”…
