GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK (WLOS) — The National Park Service will fully reopen US 441/Newfound Gap Road today, 18 days ahead of schedule, according to a release from the park service.
This announcement comes after extensive work was done on the road due to a landslide on August 1 that washed out approximately 100 feet between mile markers 12 and 13 on the Tennessee side of the park.
On August 2, engineers from the National Park Service and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) assessed the site and immediately began project scoping.
