MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) – Rutherford County is mourning the loss of one of its most beloved four-legged officers, K9 Appie, who passed away peacefully at home Sunday night, September 28, 2025, surrounded by his family and fellow K9 team members.
Appie was paired with Rutherford County Sheriff’s K9 Deputy Sarah Blair in March 2019 and served the Patrol Division as a dual-purpose K9 until his retirement in 2024. Known for both his skill in the field and his gentle demeanor with the community, Appie quickly became a trusted partner and community favorite.
During his career, Appie was recognized for bravery and dedication. He and Deputy Blair were awarded Deputy of the Month in January 2023 for their actions during an apprehension on Interstate 24. The pair also received a Life Saver’s Award in October 2022 for locating a suicidal man during a track — a moment that highlighted Appie’s lifesaving abilities…
