MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) — Crews closed a portion of Interstate 24 in Murfreesboro for hours Friday morning due to a deadly crash that took place in a TDOT work area.
According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s Smartway Map, the crash was reported just before 3:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 10 at mile marker 78.6 near Old Fort Parkway.
At 5:20 a.m., a TDOT spokesperson said the crash, which involved a passenger vehicle and an attenuator vehicle, occurred in a work area where a TDOT contractor was sweeping the inside shoulders. However, at 5:58 a.m., the spokesperson clarified that the contractor was conducting a “drain cleaning operation,” not sweeping.
