Murfreesboro, TN – Rutherford County’s Fire Marshal Joshua Sanders was among the first specialized responders called to assist in the aftermath of Friday morning’s deadly explosion at the Accurate Energetic Systems (AES) facility in McEwen, Tennessee. Acting at the request of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Sanders deployed in conjunction with his role on the ATF Arson and Explosives Task Force. His presence marks Rutherford County’s direct involvement in the federal investigation of one of the state’s most devastating industrial incidents.
The explosion occurred around 7:45 a.m. CDT on October 10, 2025 at the AES site, a sprawling 1,300-acre property near the Hickman-Humphreys County line. The blast leveled one building, scattered debris across a half-mile radius, and shook homes more than 20 miles away. Multiple fatalities have been confirmed, though officials have not released a count. 19 individuals were initially reported missing, but one person was later found safe at home. Several others were hospitalized, and at least one remains in critical condition.
